You gotta fly dummy!

Aloha! Today, I want to share with you my experience traveling to the beautiful island of Oahu in Hawaii. Oahu is a stunning destination, with picturesque beaches, lush green forests, and rich cultural heritage. If you’re planning a trip to Oahu, here’s what you need to know about getting there.

Getting to Oahu

There are two airports on Oahu: Honolulu International Airport (HNL) and Kalaeloa Airport (JRF). HNL is the largest airport in Hawaii and serves as the main gateway to Oahu. It is located about 6 miles (10 km) from downtown Honolulu and is served by numerous airlines from around the world. Kalaeloa Airport, on the other hand, is a smaller airport primarily used for domestic flights.

I flew to Oahu from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Hawaiian Airlines. The flight took about 5 hours, and the views of the Pacific Ocean were simply breathtaking. I highly recommend choosing a window seat if you can, as you’ll get to see the stunning blue waters and lush green islands from above.

Getting Around Oahu

Once you’re on Oahu, there are several options for getting around. The most convenient way to explore the island is by renting a car. There are several car rental agencies located at both HNL and Kalaeloa airports, and you can book your car online in advance to save time.

If you prefer not to drive, you can also use public transportation or hire a taxi or rideshare service. The public transportation system on Oahu is called “TheBus” and offers extensive coverage of the island. You can purchase a one-day or multi-day pass for unlimited rides.

Exploring Oahu

Oahu has so much to offer, from gorgeous beaches to historic landmarks to exciting outdoor activities. Here are some of my favorite things to do on the island:

  1. Visit Waikiki Beach: Waikiki is one of the most famous beaches in the world, and for good reason. With its crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches, Waikiki is the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun.
  2. Explore Pearl Harbor: Pearl Harbor is one of the most historic sites in the United States and is home to the USS Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri. Take a guided tour to learn about the events of December 7, 1941, and the impact they had on the United States.
  3. Hike to Diamond Head: Diamond Head is a volcanic crater that offers stunning views of Waikiki and the Pacific Ocean. The hike to the summit is moderate in difficulty and takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
  4. Enjoy the local cuisine: Oahu is famous for its delicious food, from fresh seafood to traditional Hawaiian dishes like poke and kalua pork. Be sure to try some of the local restaurants and food trucks for an authentic taste of Hawaii.

Oahu is an incredible destination, with something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to relax on the beach, explore historic sites, or try new foods, Oahu has it all. With convenient flights and easy transportation options, getting to Oahu is a breeze. So pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable Hawaiian adventure!
